Custom Website Development vs. Wix and GoDaddy: Costs, Benefits, and Tradeoffs

Wix, GoDaddy, and similar platforms are popular because they lower the barrier to getting online. They offer templates, hosting, visual editing tools, bundled support, and a faster setup path for business owners who need a basic web presence.

For a simple brochure website, that convenience can be the right answer. If the owner needs a few pages, a contact form, hours, photos, and basic updates, a builder may be easier than managing a custom codebase.

The tradeoff is that convenience can come with ongoing subscription costs, paid upgrades, platform rules, template limitations, and less control over checkout or specialized workflows. Moving away later can also take planning because the site may depend on proprietary tools.
